Many people tend to ignore health insurance because they think that an unforeseen emergency will never happen to them. However, the situations today are such that there are umpteen health hazards at home and in the workplace. At the same time, the stress levels in life have increased a lot, which add to the health hazards. There are a lot of instances of very young people developing serious lifestyle diseases like hypertension, diabetes, etc. If a major illness strikes you or any of your family members then it is advisable to be protected by sufficient health and medical insurance.

There are different types of health covers like private, family, business and group health insurance policies. The one that you buy depends on your requirements and one good way of analysing these requirements is to consult the insurance brokers that operate throughout the country. Otherwise also buying health insurance can be somewhat confusing with the largest number of companies out there each trying to claim that it is the best. In this situation, a reliable insurance broker will be able to guide you as to which company and which policy will be the best suited for you. These brokers are adept at creating the best balance of coverage and costs while choosing an insurance policy for you. Most insurance brokers in the country have a strong internet presence in the form of their own user friendly websites. These websites provide all the information about their services, skills and expertise.

The Dos And Donts Of Penis Health Care

We all know that good nutrition and making healthy choices does have a significant impact on health and wellbeing. Eating unhealthy foods can increase the risk of heart disease, early aging, diabetes, certain types of cancer, obesity the list goes on and on. On top of this, habits such as drinking too much, using drugs and smoking can cause serious health problems and reduce life expectancy.

However, it is not simply the ability to run a race, lift a couch, or live to be 97 that is at stake. Poor nutrition and other unwise habits can affect the sensitivity and function of the penis, taking the fun out of any guys sex life. The following list of dos and donts can help men of all ages to understand why it is important to live a healthy lifestyle and get the penis nutrition that is essential to a long and satisfying sex life.

DO choose lean proteins, fruits and vegetables, and minimally processed starches such as brown rice, whole wheat breads, pastas, and whole grain cereals. These foods contain the nutrients to supply the body with the building blocks it needs to maintain proper penile function, stimulate healthy blood flow, regulate the metabolism and to keep the immune system strong. Good nutrition promotes healthy blood flow to the penis, supports the regeneration of damaged nerve cells, and helps to keep the skin smooth, supple and responsive.

DONT eat foods that are high in animal fats or refined sugars. These foods may be filling and satisfying in the short term, but they cause many long-term health problems. High-calorie, fat-loaded foods and beverages are largely responsible for the high percentage of obesity in our country, a condition which affects heart and nerve function (both essential to the ability to enjoy healthy sex). For guys who think they can keep it up no matter what, think about it this way: gut fat makes the penis look smaller, not the image most guys want to project.

DO get plenty of exercise, and do so on a regular basis. A trip to the gym once a week to push around some iron might look good to the chicks on the elliptical machines, but it wont help keep the heart pumping and the blood flowing or do anything much about the spare tire.

The right amount of cardiovascular exercise (3 times a week) keeps the body weight in check, improves circulation (an important factor in erectile function and maintaining healthy, responsive skin).

DONT smoke. Smoking not only causes lung cancer (and bad breath), it makes the skin look older, stains the teeth and hands, kills the cardiovascular system, and is known to impair healthy sexual function. In fact, smoking not only makes it harder to get it up, keep it up and get off, it can actually make the penis shrink.

DO think twice before taking that fourth or fifth (or whatever) drink. It might feel good now, but drinking too much causes weight gain, damages the liver, and can limit erectile function. There is also evidence that too much alcohol lowers the sperm count, and it certainly wreaks havoc with penis sensitivity. Besides, the more alcohol consumed, the greater the likelihood of falling asleep (or passing out) before the main event.

Feeding Your Pit Bull Terrier Table Scraps Dog Health Tip

While it is often hard to tell your Pit Bull no when he begs for your food, you should be strong and do so. Feeding your Pit Bull table scraps is a bad idea for several reasons. The obvious reason is that you will be encouraging him to beg at the dinner table, you will be feeding him an unhealthy diet which can lead to health problems, and also teaching him that it is okay to eat whatever he may want.

If you give in when your Pit Bull begs for your food, especially if you are at the table, he will think that behavior is okay, and will associate it with getting what he wants, table food. Giving in will help reinforce bad behavior. It may be okay with you that he begs while you eat, but can be very annoying if you ever have dinner guests over.

Feeding your Pit Bull table food also can contribute to many serious health problems. The food we eat is often considerably higher in calories than what he needs to meet his nutritional requirements, therefore leading him to be overweight. Studies show that over half of todays pets are considerably obese. Obesity often causes the same health problems in animals as in humans. Table scraps are usually low in vitamins and nutrients, and can overload your Pit Bulls system with fat causing stomach and digestion problems. Many foods that we eat contain toxins that are safe for us, but can be detrimental to your Pit Bulls cardiovascular system. If you still intend to feed your Pit Bull table scraps, consult your veterinarian so he can let you know what foods to stay away from. You will always be safer only feeding him dog food and treats, as these are formulated specifically for him with all of nutritional requirements in mind.

By allowing your Pit Bull to eat food other than dog food, you are encouraging him that it is okay to eat whatever he wants. This can be deadly if he were to come into contact with antifreeze, deadly household chemicals and poisons, or many toxic plants. He doesnt know these things are bad for him, just that he wants to eat them. As you let him explore other foods, he will want to taste everything he comes into contact with.

To ensure your Pit Bulls health, you should really only feed him food that is intended for dogs. Again, you talk to your veterinarian, but to me, it is too risky. Your Pit Bulls health should be the number one priority, and just like children, he doesnt know what is best for him, you have to make those decisions.

Advantages And Disadvantages of the Magic Flight Launch Box (MFLB) vaporizer

Every product of service has its advantages and disadvantages. This even applies to the Magic Flight Launch Box vaporizer In this case it’s a fact that I love this apparatus, so it will be hard for me to give you a completely objective review. This is my report based on my personal feelings in regards to the Magic Flight Launch box. This is my review on the MFLB.. What I like and don’t like about the MFLB.

The size is th? amazing part of this vaporizer.. When looking at it, it appears to be a matchbox; size-wise and from the looks from it. This vaporizer can always be brought along as this even fits into a tight fitting jeans..

The second point in favor would be its simplicity and effectiveness. Why? Because you only see an ordinary AA rechargable battery and you read that this vaporizer is ready in literally 5 seconds after plugging in the battery. I tried and it worked. But what really hit me, was the overwhelming taste of the herb I used. Just imagine how herbs can smell, butnow you will have this flavor in your mouth. Wow, I instantly realized the importance of using quality herbs as this will pass through this device and you will taste the difference. I still cannot believe my first reaction; I was stunned that this was possible with this little device. I guess you also start to realize that once you start vaping with this device, you should stay away from cheap or bad herbs as you will taste it. That’s a promise!. You should only use quality herbs with this vaporizer, otherwise you will regret it. That’s for sure. Another surprise occured when exhaling. No smoke came out of my mouth, which made me wonder whether or not it still was effective. Well, a few moments later, I knew that I shouldn’t doubt this!.

When handling this device you also realize that this vaporizer is not fragile. Every part of this vaporizer is build to last. While standing on concrete I simply had to test my assumption. I had to drop it a couple of times. And like expected, no problem at all. I was vaping within 5 seconds again. To me this is very important when considering a portable vaporizer as the possibillity of falling on the floor is way bigger than an electric non-portable vaporizer.

The fourth pro is going to be its price. It only costs about ?84. If you ask me, this is a price that seems to be very fair.

And last (but not necessarily least) we’ve got the 5th point in support the overall feeling you get when having one. 1. It gives me the feeling that my habit is way better for my health than smoking it with tobacco. Vaporizing implies that there is no burning. This means no toxic fumes, which results in no harming to your body. 2. I get the feeling of freedom with it. You can stash it in every little bag as it is so damn small. In no way I am disturbed by the volume of this device. I almost forget I have it on me. 3. This device really gets me high. You will only experience a very nice high, without the usual down feeling when smoking a jointfor example. No negatives to report here. It just feels good.

What about the negatives of this device?:

Its cheap, but is it worth that price?. Does this simple, yet effective device justify the price?. Basically this device consists out of some wood, a few metal elements, two rechargable AA batteries and a tube. That’s it. Well, I cannot blame you for getting a cheap feeling, as I did as well. Simplicity also means handy. And this justifies the price if you ask me. I find this device a real invention. And to me, that makes up the whole negative feeling about the price. Hey, I want a simple, yet effective device. Nothing more, nothing less. And that’s exactly what you get with the MFLB.. But it looks so simple and therefore it also gives the feeling of cheap. So, to me this isn’t really a negative feeling.

The glass tube is a real issue to me. This glass pipe will definately break if dropped on the concrete floor. Its only a matter of time that this will occur. I cannot forgetabout this part of the device. Every time I use it, I am scared that I accidently drop it. I wouldn’t have used glass in this case. I do understand that a straw like pipe will influence the flavor. Glass is probably the easiest to clean as well. In a matter of seconds this pipe is cleaned. I can imagine that glass is the only really good material for this device. Whatever the reason, I still don’t like to think about the moment I’ll drop it on the floor. But one thing is for sure, the device itself will withstand the pounding. That gives me a good feeling. It is very strong.

The third point in contra is going to be the cheap looks and feel. Its wooden casing makes it look like you made it yourself. At the same time, the moment you have this device in your hands, lots of people tend to get very curious. People agree about the looks, but are really surprised about the size and its effectiveness.

Well, the fourth disadvantage could be the batteries. They heat up the device. You need one battery for that. While using the vaporizer, you will notice that the temperature of the battery is rising. You get 2 batteries and they should give you enough battery juice for a whole night. Which means, no problem, really. With 2 batteries you should have enough power to supply yourself and a friend a whole night long. The final drawback: It is so damn easy and handy that you need to start watching you newly developed habit. This means that you need to watch your habit. The high feeling is so smooth that you really enjoy smoking it. Don’t tell me I didn’t warn you about this

What is the verdict gonna be? Good or bad? The reply is apparently “Yes” to both questions! The magic flight launch box (mflb) vaporizer appears to be both good AND bad!

Health Insurance Explained In Plain English – Part 1

Understanding health insurance and the health industry is much easier if you recognize some of the basic terminology and how it applies to you and your health insurance policy. If you have a health insurance plan and arent sure how it works or what the terminology means, take a few minutes to read the explanations below. Knowing these terms and what they mean to you can greatly aid you in dealing with your health care providers, insurance company, insurance agent, or during the health benefits shopping process.

Benefit Year
This is the 12-month period in which your benefits are calculated. Most insurance companies use a CALENDAR year, which is January 1 to December 31, but a few will use a 12 month period from when your policy goes into effect. For example, if your insurance goes into effect on June 1, the END of your benefit year is May 31. Make sure that you understand how your benefit year will be calculated.

Deductible
Deductible means the amount of money you must pay out of your pocket for medical expenses EACH YEAR before your health insurance begins paying out. Deductibles are usually reset to 0 at the beginning of each calendar or benefit year. Many insurance companies offer health plans that have benefits that are not subject to having to meet your deductible each year such as doctors office visits, immunizations, wellness or routine exams, etc. An easy way to remember what this term means and how it works is this:

When you have incurred medical expenses, all bills must be sent to the insurance company. When the insurance company looks at your bills, they then look at your policy and see how things are covered. They will then add up what the combined medical expenses have been for the year to date: determine what your deductible is and how much you have already paid towards meeting your deductible for the year, and pay out according to how your insurance policy says it will.

So in a nutshell, the insurance company is deducting your financial responsibility for medical expenses each year from the total combined medical expenses before they have any responsibility to pay outhence the term deductible.

Co-Pay
A co-pay is an amount that is paid by the patient to a provider at the time of service. It will either be a flat fee (like $15 or $20) or it can be a percentage of the service provided. The percentages or fee may vary depending on the type of service provided. A co-pay is different than coinsurance see next.

Coinsurance
Coinsurance is the percentage paid by the insurance company after you pay the deductible. Example: Your health insurance pays 70%, you pay 30%. The insurance company pays 70% coinsurance, you pay 30% coinsurance. Most health insurance policies will have a limit on the amount of coinsurance you have to pay out each year this is known as your Annual Coinsurance Maximum or Stop-loss.

Annual Coinsurance Maximum
After paying your deductible and after paying your coinsurance (classically 20% or 30% of medical expenses) to a certain dollar amount, your health insurance will pay 100% for the remaining costs in the calendar year. Example: After you pay your deductible, your health insurance pays 70% of medical expenses and you pay 30%. Once you reach the coinsurance maximum, you no longer pay 30% of the medical expenses because the insurance pays 100%.

Out of Pocket Maximum or Stop Loss
Stop Loss is the maximum amount of money you will have to pay out of your pocket in the benefit year.

Lifetime Maximum
This is the limit of the money the health insurance will pay out over your lifetime. Most major medical health insurance policies will be a $2 million lifetime maximum, while others will go as high as a $12 million lifetime maximum. In general, it is not recommended to have a policy with less than a $2 million lifetime maximum.

Office Visits
When you visit a doctor in their office they normally bill the health insurance company for an “office visit.” Most health insurance plans pay office visit expenses at the coinsurance (generally 70% or 80%) after the deductible. Some health insurance plans pay office visit expenses at the coinsurance rate but waive the deductible, which means you dont have to reach the deductible amount before they will cover their portion of the expense. Still other health insurance plans pay office visit expenses in full after a co-pay (usually $25 or $30). It should also be noted that office visits can be classified in two different categories. One category is usually called Routine Care, Wellness visits or Preventative care (see definition below). The other type of office visit is deemed as Medically Necessary (see definition below). Certain health insurance policies cover each of these types of visits differently and other plans do not cover them at all. If having these types of office visits covered by your health insurance policy is important to you, make sure you let your agent know so that they can help find the right plan for you.

Preventive Care
Preventive Care is classically defined as routine exams, immunizations, well child care, and cancer screenings. These include your yearly exams and checkups for things such as physicals, pap smears, mammograms, etc. Not all plans cover preventive care. It may not be a wise use of your money to have preventative care included in your plan if you never go to the doctor. A good health insurance agent can help you determine if this is necessary coverage for you.

Medically Necessary
These are the visits utilized for your smaller ailments such as colds, flu, ear infections or minor accidents. Not all plans cover medically necessary visits, so make sure you know if your policy includes these exams if you need them covered. You may consider purchasing accident insurance or adding a rider (explained below) to your policy to cover these types of issues.

Diagnostic Lab and X-Ray
These are tests involving laboratory or imaging services (such as x-ray, CAT scan, etc.) to diagnose a health problem. These services are usually paid at the coinsurance (typically 70% or 80%) after the deductible.

Chiropractic Care
When you visit a chiropractor for spinal manipulation or other services, these expenses are customarily paid at the coinsurance rate (70% or 80%) either after the deductible is met, or by waiving the deductible. Most health insurance plans limit the number of chiropractic visits/services to 10 or 12 per year especially if the deductible is waived. After this, additional visits are not paid by the health insurance plan, and you will be responsible for the full amount of the bill.

Inpatient or Outpatient Care
When you receive care from a hospital (inpatient or outpatient services), these expenses are customarily paid at the coinsurance rate (70% or 80%) after the deductible has been met.

Emergency Room
When you receive care from a hospital emergency room, these expenses are customarily paid at the coinsurance level (70% or 80%) after the deductible. Most health insurance plans also require you to pay an additional co-pay (commonly $75-$100) for each emergency room visit. A number of plans waive this additional co-pay if you are actually admitted to the hospital through the emergency room and the plan will pay as an inpatient service. A plan can sometimes be structured to have separate coverage for accidents as an additional rider (see definition below) to your policy.

Prescription Medications
Prescription medications can be classified as generic, brand name, or non-preferred brand name (see below for definitions). Please Note: Not all health insurance plans pay for prescription drugs, so if you already take prescription drugs or think you will need help in the future with prescription drugs, you will want to make sure that you are purchasing a plan that includes this coverage. Prescription drugs may be covered at the coinsurance rate (70-80%) after a deductible specifically for prescription drugs is met, other plans may include Prescription drugs in the total deductible for the plan.

Generic Medications
Drug manufacturers are permitted to sell a generic version of a medication after the patent expires for the brand name medication (generally 20 years after the brand name medication was registered). Generic medications are equivalent to the corresponding brand name medication, but are much less expensive than the brand name medication. Health insurance plans frequently provide better payment for generic medications as an incentive for you to ask for the generic version. About half of all prescription medications filled in the United States are filled with generic medications.

Brand Name Medications
Brand name medications are more expensive than generic medications. Most health insurance plans create a limited list of brand name medications that they will pay for and many health insurance plans also provide less coverage for brand name medications than for their generic counterparts.

Non-Preferred Brand Name Medications
Most health insurance plans create a limited list of brand name medications they will pay for. If your brand name medication is not on this list, it might be paid at a lower level under “Non-Preferred Brand Name Medications.”

Maternity
Some health insurance plans cover the cost of maternity, which includes doctor and hospital charges for prenatal care as well as labor and delivery. Maternity is expensive to add into a health insurance policy because it is considered a guaranteed expense for the insurance company. If a woman becomes pregnant, it is a safe bet that there is going to be medical expenses incurred! If there are no complications and the birth goes well, the insurance company will be out a large monetary portion of the cost of delivery and even more if there are problems with the delivery or the newborn. Insurance companies price maternity so that they can still maintain profits. In some cases it may be best to save your money and pay for the prenatal care and the delivery out of your own pocket (or on a credit card) and let the insurance cover the catastrophic events. The difference you save in the monthly cost of having maternity coverage may be well worth it to you. Remember, once you have a policy that covers maternity, you cant just remove the maternity coverage after the pregnancy is done! You will continue to pay for that maternity coverage for as long as you have that policy.

Mammography
Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system for the examination of breasts to detect early breast cancer in women experiencing no symptoms and to detect and diagnose breast disease in women experiencing symptoms. Current guidelines from the American Cancer Society (ACS), and the American Medical Association (AMA) recommend a screening mammography every year for women, beginning at age 40. Various plans will have automatic coverage for mammograms but some will not. Several states (like Washington State, for example) have specific guidelines that require companies to have coverage for mammograms in their policies as an automatic benefit.

Mental Health
Outpatient mental health services include visits to a licensed counselor, therapist, or psychiatrist. Inpatient mental health services include admission to a psychiatric hospital. Many plans do not cover mental health services.

Rehabilitation Therapy
Rehabilitation therapy may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, message therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and chronic pain therapy. Most health insurance plans limit rehabilitation therapy to a certain number of visits per calendar year or to a certain dollar amount that they will pay for rehabilitation for either the year or for a lifetime.

Rider
Anything that changes the way your policy acts by default is called a Rider. A rider can be anything from an exclusion of coverage for a medical condition, or additional coverage for potential conditions. (As in an accident rider mentioned earlier in this report)

Occupational Coverage/On the job coverage
The largest portion of health insurance plans do not cover occupational related medical expenses. This can be a HUGE pitfall for self employed people. Always make sure that if you need to be covered while you are working that your plan will give you on the job coverage. If you get injured or sick while you are on the job and you do not have Workmans Compensation or Labor and Industries accident coverage, you may have to pay for ALL medical expenses out of your own pocket.

Vision Coverage
Vision coverage is usually broken into two parts: vision exam, and vision hardware. Vision exam benefits include the cost of a refractive exam used to test vision acuity (20/20, 20/40, etc.). Vision hardware represents the cost of eye glasses or contact lenses. A number of health insurance plans do not cover vision exams or hardware. However, medical issues relating to the health of the eye (like Glaucoma) are almost always covered under the regular medical portion of the health insurance plan.

Doctor Directory
Each insurance company will have a list of doctors that the company has negotiated terms for payment of services with. You can go to the insurance company’s website to find a listing of contracted preferred providers.

This information may help you understand a policy that you already have, or aid you in understanding a policy that you may be thinking about purchasing. The more knowledge you have about what the industry jargon means, the more you will be able to make informed decisions about the insurance you choose to use.

Eating Pistachios Is Key To Good Health

Pistachios! The funny looking nut that can give you the gift of health! But don’t let that odd appearance fool you! Pistachios are a nut with a winning combination of great taste and incredible health benefits. In what way do pistachios help you maintain your health? To understand this, we will need to talk about the most microscopic part of your body and work our way up.

Your Body’s Cells – We’ll consider several parts of the body, beginning with the tiniest. The notion that antioxidants are good for us is why we allow ourselves to indulge in mass quantities of chocolate, right? Did you know that oxidative stress – the kind that causes damage to your cell structure – can be fought with antioxidants? Devastating illnesses, like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s have been associated with oxidative stress, so antioxidants become a necessity for overall health. Pistachios are very high in antioxidants.

Your Vision – Are you anxious about degenerating vision or perhaps even going blind? Studies indicate that pistachios provide the carotenoids we need for healthy eyes. What is the significance of this? The human body requires carotenoids for good eyesight. Pistachios contain carotenoids that help prevent macular degeneration. This condition is a major cause of visual impairment among the elderly.

Your Heart – Is there a history of heart disease within your family? Many different scientists, even some from Harvard, have done various studies on pistachios. What they found is that people who eat pistachios have a lower risk of heart disease. Remember, this was not just in one study, but several independent studies. Pistachios can work minor miracles! They can help decrease cholesterol levels, increase monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, help keep your arteries clear, and boost the health of your heart in general.

Your Bowels – Yes, they can even help with your bowels. You can get as much dietary fiber from an ounce of delicious pistachios as you would get from a portion of oatmeal. What’s good about fiber? Since fiber absorbs water from the intestines, it aids in relieving irregularity and preventing hemorrhoids. Scientists have shown that this reduces your risk for painful conditions such as colon cancer and diverticulitis as well.

Keys To Success Good Mental Health

Success in business and life is about the journey. What is the journey? First of all it is about our health. Most of the time people focus on physical health and ignore or downplay their mental health.

To experience small business success and the life you desire you must be aware of the state of your mental health. Most of us know inspirational stories of people who succeeded against overwhelming odds.

Mental Health Keys

What was their key to success? There were a couple of things. First, they understood that the quality of their lives seldom exceeds their personal development.
Secondly, because they were involved in personal development, they were always doing something positive which encouraged good mental health. Their minds became a highly developed muscle that carried them past their physical limitations to success. Helen Keller is one that comes immediately to mind. She was deaf and blind. Dr. Stephen Hawking, the renowned physicist is another.

Mental Health vs. Physical Health

Now lets look at the other side. How many inspirational stories do you know of where someone succeeded and overcame great challenges yet had poor mental health and excellent physical health? I cant think of any at the moment.
It was once said that what the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve. Yes, your mental health is the key to growth and satisfaction.

How do you achieve good mental health? There are many ways. Some of the more obvious include associating with positive people, affirming ourselves with our self-talk in a positive manner, participating in things that bring us satisfaction and enjoyment and avoiding negative media.
You become what you think about most. What are you thinking about? All of us sail the same stormy seas of life. Whether you are a self-employed business owner, entrepreneur or solo professional the challenges of running a small business can create waves that can come crashing over us may, at times, seem insurmountable.

Physical health is important to success. Yet, if you dont have the mental health even if you are healthy physically, you will hold yourself back.

Mental HealthConceive Victory and See Yourself Winning
How do you sail through the huge waves that are trying to knock you off course? Begin with your mind.

Conceive your picture of success or victory. As a personal business coach I ask all my clients to get a clear picture of what success looks like for them not just for today but for five or ten years from now.

Get a clear picture in your mind of what success in the future will look like. Once the future is finished in your mind, what you need to do in the present becomes absolutely clear.

Start believing that you will achieve it. Small business growth and small business success as well as personal growth and success are engines that are run on the steam of belief.

Mental HealthSurround Yourself With Positive People

Another important point is that you must surround yourself with positive people. Also, positive self-talk to create an expectation of success is a must. And, watch good TV or read good books. Put up in your home or business pictures of what you want success and happiness to look like. Remember your mind is a muscle. It will work as well as what you feed it.

Now you are ready to achieve success. You have been working out your mind muscle and it is ready to take you to new places.

Heres the best part. Embrace your mental health. It will lift your self-esteem while creating a positive and very real expectation of success. Others will pick up on this. You will attract the right people. When you do, they will be able to lift you and help you to realize and accomplish your picture of success.

Good mental health is the key to happiness and success in business and life. Remember, what the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve. Conceive good things and believe they will come. Thats practicing good mental health.

A Whimsical And Illustrative, If Impractical, Approach To Solving The Health Care Crisis

It has always been the view of many thoughtful Americans that Obama Care and the politicians that wrote the voluminous and unreadable 2000+ page legislation got it all wrong. They assumed that the problem was escalating health care costs and then wrote legislation to treat this symptom, not the underlying root causes. High costs are an outcome because of other factors.

It is as if the political class is treating a cough but do not understand whether the cough is caused by allergies, the flu, bronchitis, pneumonia, cancer, strep throat, etc. Unless you know what the underlying disease is, if you treat only the symptom, in this case high and escalating health care costs, the chances of success are quite low.

If you look at the literature on the health state of most Americans, you find a consistent pattern:

– Americans smoke too much.

– Americans eat too much.

– Americans eat too much of the wrong kind of foods.

– Americans do not get enough exercise.

– Americans in general are getting older.

The first four items in this list are modifiable behaviors. They are the key to getting health care costs under control. Obama, Reid, Pelosi, et al never understood this. They raised taxes and implemented new taxes and fees, they created an untold number of new government agencies, they will criminalize millions of Americans for not bowing down to Obama Care and buying mandatory health insurance for themselves, etc. They treated the symptom of high health care costs as a tax, control, and bureaucracy problem, not a behavior and aging problem. Their chances of success are very small, assuming the legislation ever gets fully implemented and is not declared unconstitutional.

They also did not understand that forcing a human being to do something is never the best way to get something done. If you can make someone want to and like to do something from a behavior perspective, they are 1) more likely to do it, 2 ) do it with more conviction and 3) do it for a longer period of time. Forcing an American to do anything just gets their ire up and robs them of the freedom of choice, something a government should rarely, if ever, do in a democracy.

This is where some creativity and originality may have been a much better approach, in conjunction with modifying behavior relative to good health habits. We got none of this creative thinking from those in charge of Obama Care, it was the same old overbearing, freedom robbing, inefficient government control approach. Maybe they should have looked at a specific YouTube video for some of that refreshing new thinking. this video can be viewed by going to the YouTube website and searching for “odenplan, sweden, stairs, escalator, piano.”

This video covers an interesting experiment that was done in Odenplan, Sweden. The video opens with a shot of what looks like a subway area with abutting stairs and an “Up” escalator. In the first part of the video, the overwhelming percentage of travelers take the escalator to get up to street level, very few take the 20-30 stairs up. It is then that a bunch of engineers and others get involved. They transform the stairs into a simulated piano keyboard, with both black and white keys. When someone steps on the stairs, a piano note is generated so that by walking up the stairs it is as if you are playing the piano.

After the installation of the musical steps are completed, the majority of travelers opt now for the keyboard stairs and not the easier escalator. According to the video, the usage of the steps increased 66%. Using the steps is obviously a better health option but a healthier option that people chose of their own free will, not one forced on them.

If Obama, Reid, and Pelosi were in charge of the situation, they would have shut down the escalator, forced people to use the stairs, written a 2,000 page manual on the proper way to use steps and charged citizens a fee or tax to do so. The stairs would not make any sound since the government bureaucracy in charge of implementing the musical stairs would have been bogged down in red tape and never got around to the job.

Now, is it feasible to convert every set of steps in the country to musical steps? Obviously not. However, in a whimsical sort of way it would be cool to do so. Americans would gladly use the musical steps even though it was healthier for them, they would still be free to chose but by using some creativity, the right behavior would occur without new government regulations, without a loss of freedom, without coercion, and without new taxes.

This would have been such a refreshingly new approach: guide, not force, people to the right behavior to address and eliminate the underlying causes of high health care costs. If you reduce the demand for health care services because of musical steps or other innovative behavior modification, simple economics would drive down the costs, assuming the supply of medical services was constant.

That is why when you correctly view the issue of high health care costs as a behavior modification issue and not a government bureaucracy and tax issue you see that the solution should be executed from a public health viewpoint. How can you find a way to make good health behavior the right and freely chosen behavior to do? That would have been the creative, innovative, and liberty-wise right approach. It is not the type of behavior we can expect from our political class. We have not had our political class solve any issue from a creative, innovative, or freedom perspective for a very long time.

How might this positive public health approach be accomplished? On way would be to put together a panel of very smart Americans, sans politicians and lobbyists, in the mode of the successful Manhattan Project, the Apollo space program, the Military Base Closing Commission, and the Grace Commission on reducing government costs. Let the experts go about defining the true underlying causes to the problem and let the smart members of the panel come up with piano steps-like public health initiatives that modify behavior, address the underlying root causes, allow us to not lose our freedom of choice, not create mega-new bureaucracies, and not waste our tax dollars.

Now, as mentioned above, even if you modify all of the bad American eating and exercising habits, you are still left with the simple fact that Americans are getting older and in all likelihood will need more health care. We need to funnel resources into solving some of the biggest cancer killers of our time and vigorously attack the problem of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. These are the health care cost causers that will cripple the nation’s financial viability unless we can find a way to solve these health issues.

Over time, better eating and exercise habits might mitigate the cancer and Alzheimer’s impact but that would happen down the road. With thousands of Baby Boomers turning 65 every day, we must find a way to attack and conquer these diseases to mitigate the impact on health care costs. Obama Care does not make this approach a priority, which is a shame because if you do not solve these aging disease factors, it does not matter what you do from a taxation, government control, and bureaucracy perspective. The sheer number of Baby Boomers will overwhelm the system from a cancer and dementia perspective.

Thus, as you go through your day, think about using the stairs once in a while and imagine a piano playing every time you take a step. It will invigorate your body with the healthy stair option and maybe invigorate your mind, possibly staving off dementia, if you can imagine the piano steps playing a song as you go up. This will certainly make a bigger contribution to a healthy America than anything in the Obama Care legislation.

As the video says, “Fun can obviously change behavior for the better.”

Allay Fears Of Comparing Health Insurance

Experts keep telling us compare different health insurance policies if you are interested in getting cheap health insurance in Australia. But at the first look all of them seem the same so what exactly do you need to compare, how to filter and sort so that you choose the right health insurance policy. Today we shall try to allay a few of these questions and few other fears you may have that prevent you from comparing health insurances.

Marketing tactics

Most of us feel that this so-called comparison is just a marketing tactic for data mining. Essentially the company wants to collect your contact details so that they can have their sales team call you and pester you into taking one of their policies. Well this isnt entirely true; most comparison sites wont even ask you for any contact details. But yes they will ask for some important information like your age and type of cover you need amongst a few other questions. This will help them show you the relevant policies available and the premium payable for the same. You can then filter it and sort it anyway you like.

User-friendly application

Most of the sites do the filtering and sorting for you. Once you have keyed in the information it will take you to the results page where most or almost all of the policies suitable for you are listed. You can then eliminate or filter them according to your specific needs.

For instance select the level of cover based on your personal requirements, if you are looking for comprehensive then choose comprehensive as your level of cover
Similarly if you are looking for health funds, choose that option and you will get a list of health funds to compare
The monthly budget slider will help you indicate the amount of premium you can afford or are willing to pay
If you are looking to cover specific treatments, tick those you want to cover in the hospital cover and extra cover menu

Each time you adjust the filter options results will get updated automatically till you have selected all options that you think are relevant. With this filter application it is easier to compare policies.
Making comparisons

Check for the Canstar rating (your best bet to get cheap health insurance in Australia that provides best value for the money). Check pricing information if it covers treatments you were searching cover for, also remember to check exclusions.
